Joy Luck Club (JLC) hosted it’s first gathering within their premises last Friday. Besides running a retail business, JLC hopes to reach out to mommies by organizing periodic events as well as informal gatherings for mommies and mommies to be.
Such gatherings are targeted to let mommies, especially stay at home moms (SAHM) to meet and get to know other mommies friends because at JLC, we believe n providing support to mommies, be it exchanging of ideas, learning a new trick or two in handling your toddlers or even making a new dish for your family. Here, we share.
The gathering was first announced on our Facebook and we were glad that a few mommies were able to join us that night. It felt like a trade gathering and everyone who turned up held a similar portfolio - mother.
As mommies, the ladies had a lot to share, from pregnancy to labour, handling of babies and child caring. all in a relaxing environment surrounded with food and drinks. It was all fun, without worries about their babies at home, another opportunity for the daddies to step up their roles as well as to bond with their babies.
The gathering ended with mommies asking when is our next session. Yes, we will be doing this on a regular basis. Just keep a look out on our Facebook for future announcements.

A Celebration of Dance organised by the World Dance Alliance Singapore
Opening on Saturday, May 21st 2011 at 5pm at One Fullerton
Singapore Dance Week, a week long celebration of Dance will open this Saturday, May 21st 2011 with “Connect…Share…Experience!” As the name suggests, Singaporeans will get up and experience the joy and verve of Dance. The venue for this opening event will be One Fullerton. This will be followed by a full week of dance happenings in various parts of the island in schools, community centres, dance studios and institutions etc. Singapore Dance Week 2011 will close on May 28th 2011 at ION Orchard.
For us Singapore Dance Week is a platform for connecting, sharing and experiencing dance together. The seed of this idea first found expression as International Dance Day in 2008. Each year, the idea has been developing – in 2009 WDAS celebrated International Dance Week. In 2010 the event morphed itself into Singapore Dance Week and was organised on a much larger scale than the previous years. This year, the event has received even more support from various segments of the community. We at WDAS look at Singapore Dance Week as an annual event which we see moving closer and closer each year towards the vision of taking Dance to the community.
