Reading is a neurological function not an education subject. The process of learning is a joyous and intimate one for both mother and child.

The question is how to spend that time most fruitfully, happily and usefully.

Certainly it’s true that we don’t want to waste a minute that will help to create a happier, more capable, more creative child.

Every baby arrives equipped with a mother-there is a good reason for that. Every mother, whether she is new to the job or highly experienced has a marvelous ability and opportunity to observe her baby, and then to act intuitively based on her observations.

On worst day a mother will do this “Better” with her own baby than most others apart from her/mother would do on their “Best” days.

Teaching babies to read as early as possible would be the one of the main task for mothers. Experts believe that reading is the function of the eye. When a baby is born he/she does not have the ability to use both eyes together.

This is called visual convergence. Visual convergence which results in simple depth perception.

Mothers could have noticed her babies often bang into the wall, not because they are clumpsy, but more often their depth perception is not fully developed.

Therefore, mothers should take serious consideration of the visual pathway before teaching babies to read.

Depth perception is the visual ability to perceive the world in three dimensions. Depth Perception

Secondly, distractions of words and pictures from educational DVD’s may not help babies in language skills.

We parents most of the time use machines to teach our babies to read for convenience rather than for the benefit for our babies.

As a parent I will not use machines to replace myself as a fore-most teacher for my baby. Will you?
